Painting Flowers From Flowers

At my parents house, the crabapple trees had bloomed and dropped a lot of petals on the ground due to the recent storm. I decided to gather up a bunch and see if I could make some watercolor paint with them.

I grabbed a bunch of petals and put them in coffee filters, then poured boiling water over them.

Smelled really nice, like a floral tea!

This was the end result. One I added nothing to, the middle I added lemon juice & one I added some baking soda to. The difference in acidity changed the color of the pigment!

Here is a test page I did. The colors are light but still really cool! The original doesn't look like much, but the lemon juice created a nice pink color. Surprisingly, the baking soda turned the pigment green!

Here's a little painting I did of some crabapple flowers with the crabapple pigments I made. I ended up making a fourth color with a little more lemon juice. I'm not very good at watercolors.

Same painting outside! I'd like to do more stuff like this.
